The operation of the economy and the life of the society would be unimaginable without power generation.
The energy needs of the world economy have grown very
rapidly in the last two centuries. By the middle of the twentieth century the
mass production needed more energy than before. And the population also
demanded more and more energy. The industrial production and the growth of
poputation and life standard were accompanied by the development of traffic.
By the middle of the 19th century the most important energy
resource was the wood.
After the industrial revolution: coal.
After the evolution of the engines: mineral oil. Nowadays,
this is the most important energy resource. The most important places of
occurrence: Middle-East, USA, Russia, Mexico, China, Venezuela, Canada, Africa.
The coal is the second most important energy resource today.
Very pollutant. Places: China, USA, Russia, India, Australia, Germany, South
African Republic and Poland.
Natural gas: Cheaper than the oil. Less pollutant. Russia,
USA, Canada.
Atomic energy: Canada and Australia are the „leaders”.
Uranium ore can be used the best for power generation.
Water power: Because of the fact that it cannot be so
widespread, not so significant. However, not pollutant.
The distribution of the utilization of energy resources in
the world is quite uneven. In the poor countries: wood. In the Arabian
countries almost 100% of the generated power is derived from the oil sockets. A
group of those countries that are poor in mineral resourcesgreatly rely on
atomic energy (eg France, Belgium, Sweden and even Hungary).
Most of the generated power reaches the consumers as
electric current. Easy to use up and transport.
The big „generators”: USA, China, Japan and Russia.
The big consumers: USA, China, Japan, Germany and Russia.
However, from among the continents Asia is the greatest consumer.
